Richard Garriott, best known for the iconic Ultima franchise, is working on his new project with longtime colleague Todd Porter.

The developers admit that they understand the current situation around NFT games, but they believe that this is partly due to the fact that the direction has only just begun to develop. Their game will be an isometric fantasy RPG, for which the necessary funds have already been raised.

However, the creators of the game want to add money from the sale of in-game land using NFT to the already existing funds.

The concept of a piece of land

Garriott and Porter say that the owners of such in-game plots of land will be able to build their shops, taverns and even portals to the dungeons they created on them, earning money on it.

According to Garriott, the concept of such mechanics is far from new, although now it is associated with the NFT.

When players started buying and selling stores from Ultima Online on eBay, we had to ask the community for feedback. Should we stop this as we cannot guarantee that such sales will be permanent? And we didn’t get anything from it either. All we got was risks and complaints. Blockchain in this case is a good way to honestly clarify the economic part of those players who buy, sell and exchange assets.

Richard Garriott, Developer

The creator of Ultima noted that this game is not intended to lure players into the cryptocurrency market.

I myself invest in cryptocurrency, and I understand that all this is difficult. So we have no illusions about this. We do not expect players to understand and be interested in blockchain. We will deal with this side of the issue ourselves.

Richard Garriott, Developer

The developers have assured that their game will not consist entirely of NFT content. Instead, they want to use tokens as an option for those who are interested in it and want to create something that they think will gain popularity among other players.

The project of Richard Garriott and Todd Porter is at an early stage of development, and it does not even have a name yet.
