The extremely limited access to NFT suggests that this is probably just an initial test to see how NFT integration can work on Reddit

Reddit users can now put non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on their avatars. The site announced this in a special section about NFTs. According to the details of the innovation, users will only be able to install 4 limited NFTs created by Reddit itself.

Four NFTs were sold for $400,000 each to be used as an avatar on the Reddit platform.

The extremely limited access to NFT suggests that this is probably just an initial test to see how NFT integration can work on Reddit. It could also just be a way to get people to switch from the old Reddit design, which is still very popular, on the new one.

You cannot use your own NFT as an avatar. If you don’t have one of the four, you’ll just have to use the given JPEG

To do this, users must redeem the NFT from the current owners. For example, one of the first NFT buyers forked out 115 ETH (~$400,000), so it’s hardly worth waiting for a lower price. However, as can be seen from the transaction history below, one of the NFT owners once spent 175 wETH on the token, and resold it for 42 ETH.

However, it is worth noting that there is no evidence that the seller and buyer are not the same person. Users with NFT avatars will stand out from other users due to glowing animation.

Twitter has also tried to integrate NFT as a profile picture, but it’s not too clear how that happened.

There are privacy concerns, especially if the user’s ethereum address is displayed the same as it is on Twitter, because then you could potentially see someone’s wealth and financial activities.

A problem that OpenSea does not have because the blockchain address is a username and an account.

So both Reddit and Twitter are probably in no hurry to fully integrate NFT, but this new invention has become widespread enough now that both platforms want to try it.
